Can stress keep you from losing weight?

Posted by Skinnyjane.com on 11th Jul 2014

With work, family, and our constantly on the go society, day to day stress is very common for people to experience. To some of us, it may seem obvious that being stressed can hinder weight loss for women, with the "stress eating" that we may experience. Understanding how stress affects our body and our weight loss plans can help us understand how to obtain easy weight loss even with daily stress in our lives. Here are the ways that stress affects our body and can lead to setbacks in your weight loss diet:

  • Metabolism. The hormone cortisol is released when our body experiences stress. Too much of this hormone can slow your metabolism, making dieting difficult and hindering your guaranteed weight loss. To avoid a decrease in metabolism, make sure to exercise when you are stressed and check out our blog on ways to increase your metabolism.
  • Cravings. Chronic stress can cause us to crave more fatty, salty, and sugary foods, all which can contribute to weight gain. If you want to avoid these cravings, try one of our Skinny Blend Weight Loss Shakes, which have been proven to decrease appetite and eliminate cravings throughout the day.
  • Fat Storage. Not only does stress slow down our metabolism and increase our unhealthy cravings, but it also affects where we store our fat. In general, the greater the levels of stress experienced, the more our body stores our fat in the abdominal area.
In our go go go society that so often keeps us busy and stressed, we also tend to experience emotional eating, opt for fast food instead of taking the time to cook a healthy meal, and use being too busy as an excuse not to exercise. Don't let these be the reason you don't reach your weight loss goal. Understanding how stress affects our body and can hinder our weight loss plan can help us avoid a weight loss plateau and get back to achieving that easy weight loss we are looking for.
