You can say Bye Bye Belly Bloat!

The holiday season is now in full swing! Unfortunately, a lot of holiday foods have nothing to give you but bloating and discomfort. You could always try to avoid foods that cause discomfort, but why not beat your bloat all together with healthy foods - full of fiber, prebiotics, and nutrients such as potassium! Make these foods a part of your daily meal plan or add them as "belly cleansers" with your holiday meals. The holidays don't have to be uncomfortable!

  1. Bananas - Most often touted for their potassium content, bananas also contain fiber and prebiotics. However, the potassium helps prevent water retention. If you're feeling bloated have a banana for dessert instead.
  2. Leafy Greens -
  3. Artichokes
  4. Avocados
  5. Lentils
  6. Oatmeal
  7. Probiotic Yogurt -
  8. Fatty Fish - Fish like salmon are a great source of Omega-3 Fatty Acids. These fats are structural and not storage, meaning they are less likely to become body fat. Bonus: Omega-3s help fight inflammation and give you glowing skin!
  9. Apples - The fiber in apples will help you manage hunger, which prevent overeating and in turn bloating.
  10. Asparagus - Another excellent source of potassium and fiber. Asparagus will prevent water retention and help with elimination. Try serving asparagus as an appetizer to start the meal on a good note.

There are several other foods that will help with bloat. Think melons, cucumbers, and other "watery" foods. Also, take time between courses to evaluate your hunger. Take dessert to-go and you will probably remember it a week later, spoiled at the back of the fridge.

A few good decisions and time and you are on your way to your happiest holiday season yet!
