How to Control Portion Sizes

Posted by Skinnyjane.com on 22nd Apr 2016

We all have over-stuffed our plates at least once in our lives. Overeating and not watching portion sizes can lead to many problems, such as obesity. To live a healthier lifestyle, you should be aware of your portion sizes when you go to eat. Here are some tips on how to control your portion sizes so you are not overeating.

1. Plan wisely before cooking a meal: When we cook at home, we tend to make more food than people who are actually planning on eating it. To avoid over cooking, cook 30% less than you usually do and that should be just the exact amount that you will need, especially if you are watching your portion sizes.

2. Use smaller plates and dishes: We tend to like to fill up our plates and make them full when eating. So if you reduce the size of your plates or dishes, you can ensure that you will not overeat or waste excess food that you would have had before.

3. Choose smaller shopping carts or baskets: When you go to the supermarket, make sure you choose a smaller shopping cart to avoid buying too much groceries. The bigger the cart, the more tempted you will be to fill it up and buy items that you actually do not need.

4. Order the right amount for you: While eating out, ask the waiter or waitress about portion sizes. If the amount is more than you could eat, then you could share it with another person.
