Blast Belly Fat: DON’T EAT THAT!

Life is hectic! Not everyone has time for an hour in the gym, but getting rid of that excess belly weight is crucial! Recent studies have found that having an “apple” shape can directly affect your health, happiness, and even financial futures (this is due to higher medical insurance costs, doctor’s bills, etc.)! So here are some weight loss foods, and some foods to avoid keeping you on track to losing belly fat quickly!

  1. DON’T: Diet Soda

Recent studies have shown that those who drank 2 or more diet sodas a day had waist increases that were 6 times greater than those who didn’t! Diet sodas are chock full of artificial sweeteners which tricks the body, into a fat storing state instead of a fat burning state.

  1. DO: Eat 3 Square Meals A Day (and we, SkinnyJane.com, recommend 2 healthy snacks in between meals)

“How Do I Get Thin?” you ask? Researchers have found that eating three square meals a day seems to be more effective at burning belly fat, instead of the usually recommended multiple small meals, because it kick-starts your metabolism! However, this means ONLY 3 meals a day. No unhealthy snacking in between! We believe you will do best and not be as apt to over eat especially at dinner if you have a healthy, portioned controlled snack such as a Skinny Blend shake.

  1. DO: Walnuts!

Recent studies have shown that saturated fats are TERRIBLE for losing abdominal weight, but unsaturated fats can actually help the process! Saturated fats activate certain genes that increase storage of fat! These are found in products such as red meat and baked goods. Polyunsaturated fats turn on genes that reduce fat storage, turn on insulin metabolism, and the good news is walnuts are one of the best sources of polyunsaturated’s! You can crumble some up and add it to almost any healthy meal to create diet foods for lunch or dinner! We also love topping a bowl of oatmeal with 4 chopped walnuts.

  1. DON’T: HIIT Training

Although HIIT training is all the rage right now, (high intensity, interval, stop start training) won’t do much to help you lose belly fat. Studies have shown that those who keep a healthy diet, and do traditional cardio workouts (45 minutes of cycling 3 times a week, for example), lost almost 3 percent of their abdominal fat in a 3 month period. Although HIIT is a good way to keep up your fitness, its better for young individuals who are already fit and healthy.

  1. DO: Switch Coffee for Green Tea!

Drinking green tea throughout the day has been shown to shrink your waist, while coffee has been shown to do exactly the opposite. Studies have shown that those who drink 4-5 cups of green tea, coupled with a 25-minute workout session lost on average 2 pounds more than those who exercised and didn’t drink green tea. Another showed that those who drank 5+ cups of coffee a day nearly doubled their belly fat (we wonder if these coffee drinkers were adding sugar and cream because other studies have shown that coffee actually helps burn fat and speed up the metabolism).
