Christmas is fast approaching, just four weeks after Thanksgiving. The average adult gains 1-2 pounds during this short season! Being healthy doesn't mean turning down all the merriment this season. You also shouldn't ignore or give up on your goals just for a few days of indulgences. Try these tips to enjoy the holidays but stay on track!
- Take a Break - Tempted to get a second plate? Take 5-15 minutes to socialize and then re-evaluate if you are truly hungry. If you are, fill your plate with vegetables and protein which are more satisfying than carbs.
- Limit Alcohol - Alcohol is basically sugar, water, and grains boiled and fermented. Even worse, drinking alcohol can affect your metabolism for several days after drinking. Limit alcohol to 1-2 drinks and try mixing with water instead of soft drinks.
- Set a Sweets Limit - A single cutout cookie with icing can have up to 200 calories! Before getting dessert, survey the dessert table and decide what item(s) you will have. Try to limit yourself to 1-2 treats and use a small napkin as your plate.
- Have some Protein - The best way to curb cravings is to have protein before eating. If you are going to a party that will be awash with sweet, fatty foods drink a Skinny Blend shake. The sweet taste will satisfy your sweet tooth and the protein will curb cravings.
